Universal Kenpo Karate Dojos is a family of American Kenpo studios that fall under the Parker/Planas/Hughes lineage. All schools are currently run by Mr. Hughes or students of Mr. Hughes and his lineage. Currently there are UKK schools across the Midwest and as far west as Idaho. All schools use the same curriculum, though some teach more age groups than others. In addition, we gather for events like the bi-annual Step-Exam, for Mr. Hughes' seminar tours, as well as for special seminars with Mr. Richard "Huk" Planas, other Kenpo seniors. UKK's origin came about in the mid-90's when Mr. Hughes was teaching in Storm Lake, Iowa and has since been incorporated into many schools and clubs.
To become a member of UKK, you must train under a UKK instructor. Please contact us to find the nearest UKK representative.
Mr. Planas is the head of our lineage and Mr Hughes' instructor. UKK is very forunate to have him in our schools three or four times a year.
Mr Hughes is UKK's National Director and Senior Instructor. Mr. Hughes visits all UKK schools at least twice a year and is the instructor of all UKK studio operators.
Mr Meredith is UKK's Midwest Regional Director and the Head Instructor of our Cedar Rapids, Iowa location. Mr Meredith is important to the education of UKK students and communciation between our schools.
Mr Collingwood is a member UKK's Board of Directors. His counsel is used along with the other directors in making decisions effecting the development of UKK programs and standards.

Distance training is tough, but if you'll put in the extra effort, we'll help you attain your goals!
We do not have a video to Black Belt program; however, we do have a distance learning program.
This program is designed for a highly driven student who specifically want to train in Ed Parker's American Kenpo. It is a mix of video learning, hands on private instruction, group classes, and seminars.
To obtain a Black Belt in American Kenpo from UKK you need to spend real mat time with a qualified UKK instructor. We will find the most convenient instructor for your location, and set you up on a realistic training program. You will need our supplimental training videos as well, but nothing will replace the time you spend with your instructor. You will need discipline to make this work!
